It’s just as well Brandon Drury hasn’t shown up for camp yet because they don’t have the laundry for him anyway. That’s the story now that the Mets have dressed the newly arrived Kevin Pillar in his customary 11 while the non-roster infield longshot Drury will chose among the few left available in our updated chart below, perhaps 15 as Guillermo Heredia sure enough was whacked and subsequently waiver-wired by the Braves, where he’ll be obligated at have at least one turn at-bat we’ll regret this year.
By now we’ve heard still more from Taijuan Walker whom I have to say is a lot better at social media than Trevor Bauer. Walker has embraced his 99–as his his only predecessor, Turk Wendell–and explained that he’d come up as a 44 but was bumped off it when he was traded to Arizona and teamed with Paul Goldschmidt so took 99; a move to Toronto put 99 into conflict with Hyun Jin Ryu so took 00; and now Mr. Met forces a move back to 99. When we trade him, he’ll go back to 44.

Corey Oswalt is now italic NRI Corey Oswald at 55
The official roster shows new signee Caleb Joseph in 15. That leaves Drury with 7 or something from our stylish defensive lineman collection.
I thought Tebow retired which would open up the highly sought after 85.
Stephen Nogosek is in camp wearing 85. He pitched an inning on Wednesday. Not listed on the roster though.
For whatever it’s worth, Rotoworld lists Brandon Drury as #84.
According to today’s (March 8) official Met travel roster, Brandon Drury is wearing 84. Also they’ve added another catcher, Hayden Senger, who is wearing 98. Stephen Nogosek is in 85 as noted previously.
Also, according to the mets.com Transactions page, they’ve added J.T. Ginn to camp. This is in addition to Senger and Nogosek. None of these three are listed in the NRI roster page. Not sure what number Ginn is wearing.
Looks like 7 is being semiretired.
Seems like Mets are avoiding #69. Is it in honor of the 1969 team? Or because the number has sexual overtones? If the latter, c’mon, get past it. The Met fanbase has evolved beyond the Bevis and Butthead level, I hope.
Ginn is in 80. I don’t know what that means for Rafael Fernandez.
I really don’t get the semi retiring of #7. d’Arnaud and Stroman both wore it after Reyes. Reyes doesn’t deserve his number rested, for quite a few reasons.
And I think they don’t assign 69 because of the sexual overtones–which is so silly. Most teams don’t assign it.
Totally agree
