From NY Post regarding Travis’ number change: D’Arnaud has changed his number from 15 to 7, switching with coach Bob Geren and claiming a number previously worn by Jose Reyes. D’Arnaud said he will take care of Geren with a special gift that he wants to be a surprise.
“I’ve always loved the number 7,” d’Arnaud said. “It is such a great New York number, going back to Mickey Mantle.”
Bobby Abreu also occupied #53 last year.
So he did. Thanks! (fixed)
#13 goes to Bob Natal (former catcher) current catching instructor. #79 goes to Eric Langill 2nd bullpen catcher. #8 – Gary Carter, 17 – Keith Hernandez, 24 – Willie Mays, and #31 – Mike Piazza and “semi” retired.
#1 could become “semi” retired for Mookie Wilson. #53, #61 not used as of yet. #69 not used for obvious reasons.
Thanks for the updates. I don’t believe they will retire #1, especially since it seems Mookie and the Mets have had some differences over the years.
Sorry, Langill is #78 (not 79) My typing error.
[…] Again, in 2015, no Mets player will wear uniform Nos. 8, 17 or 31 (MBTN, Feb. 4). […]
I would DEMAND #69 if I was a professional athlete.
It would be nice if the Mets made a decision either way regarding #24. Willie isn’t getting any younger.
