I saw he is listed as #64, but that was his Spring Training number. I bet he shows up in #47, last worn by Fossum.

I suppose he could. But I'm basing the post on the press release -- linked in the entry below -- that makes a point that Dessens would wear 64.

Who knows whether he'll even get into a game as it's clear one of the two newly arriving pitchers is doomed to be returned to Buffalo by the weekend (the Snooze says they're recalling Argenis Reyes for infield depth, ugh).

I found some more interesting stuff on numbers assigned but not worn recently that I'll address in a new post.

I known it doesn't officially count, but who else remembers first seeing Dwight Gooden wearing no. 64 in spring training 1984?

I remember Doc wearing #64 in the spring of 84. He actually wore it again one spring in the 1990s after some of his personal issues, and said he was wearing it for a fresh start. He went back to his usual 16 during the season.

And who wouldn't be reminded of the 19-year-old beanpole fireballer upon sight of the chubby 38-year-old journeyman?

The shuttle in and out of players continues. Out goes Jon Switzer 56 and up comes Argenis Reyes sporting number 11 according to mets.com even though his old number 4 is available with the dfa of Wilson Valdez.
