JJ Putz

A top closer with Seattle but not yet paid like one, Putz's acquisition, announced only the day after the Mets signed closer Frankie Rodriguez, provided the biggest jolt of 2008 offseason and almost a comical act of compensation for a beleaguered bullpen. He'll spend his last year under the team's control as a set-up man then, presumably, look to close somewhere else.
