Odd Occurance

Tonight’s infield is an odd one.
1 Castillo 2B
3 Easley 1B
5 Wright 3B
7 Reyes SS
9 DiFelice C
I’m going to guess this is the first time that’s ever happened.

Not quite as aesthetically pleasing as 1, 3, 5, 7 & 9, but six times in August of 1974:
15 - Grote, C
7 - Kranepool, 1B
17 - Millan, 2B
3 - Harrelson, SS
11 - Garrett, 3B
With Torre (9) inserted for Garrett at third and/or Phillips (5) in for Harrelson, it happened a few times in 1975 as well.
Comment by G-Fafif :: August 20, 2007 @ 1:49 amAnd because I’m in major procrastination mode, from September 18, 2005:
31 - Piazza, C
27 - Jacobs, 1B
1 - Hernandez, 2B
7 - Reyes, SS
5 - Wright, 3B
I remember this well because it was the first (not counting the catcher) all-1980s-born infield in Mets history.
Comment by G-Fafif :: August 20, 2007 @ 1:54 amI was definitely going for aesthetic pleasure with the 1,3,5,7,9 thingy. I didn’t mean to indicate there hadn’t been an all-odd infield before.
However… can we find a game with an all-odd (or all-even) lineup? Milner and Staub are pesky even-stevens in the first set; Diaz and Floyd ruin your second example.
Comment by admin :: August 20, 2007 @ 6:06 amCurse you Karim Garcia! From May 30, 2004:
57 - Valent, LF
25 - Matsui, SS
31 - Piazza, 1B
43 - Spencer, CF
20 - Garcia, RF
23 - Phillips, C
27 - Zeile, 3B
9 - Wigginton, 2B
29 - Trachsel, P
No doubt you’ve already run the numbers on this metric, but how does this lineup rank for quantity? They add up to 264, with only Wiggy below 20.
Comment by G-Fafif :: August 20, 2007 @ 11:15 am[…] to Greg for the headline (his remark in the “Odd Occurrance” post below, plus my additon, four exclaimation points for emphasis). Among the many things […]
Pingback by Mets by the Numbers » Curse You, Karim Garcia!!!! :: August 23, 2007 @ 10:53 amThere must have been a Kranepool - Weis - Harrelson - Charles - Martin infield at least once in 1969.
